NOT JUST A SHELTER
Mother Teresa Maternity Home is more than a shelter. It is an avenue for pregnant women in need. Our goals are to assist them in completing their pregnancy in safety and comfort and assist them with referrals to existing community services and agencies. This could never be accomplished without the assistance of all the wonderful people in El Dorado County, Sacramento County and places even out of our area. We are grateful
for all of our generous donors. We have goals for our residents that would not be possible without the assistance of the following agencies: Infant Parent Center, Hope House, Pregnancy Counseling Center, Sierra Child and Family, Family Connections, EDCA life skills, Progress House, AA/NA, Women Infant Center, Center For Violence Free Relationships, El Dorado County Health and Human Services, Public Health Department,
Marshall OB Physicians, Marshall medical center, Marshall medical education Classes, mental health Department, Community Resource Center, Adult Education Program, El Dorado County GED Testing Center, Job One, and Blue Ribbon Employment Agency. We are blessed to live in such a great community!!!! A Shout Out to all you wonderful, helpful people. You are giving our residents not "just A Shelter" but a HOME!

Page 2 Meet Tucker On December 31, 2013, I gave birth to a handsome baby boy, Tucker Day Cotton! I was eight days overdue and was induced . Labor was short and easy but a bit painful. Tucker was the last baby born at Marshall Hospital on New Years Eve. He was 8 lbs. 5 oz. and 21 in. long. He is currently 2 months old and 11 lbs. 10 oz. He is my pride and joy. I am so glad we're staying at MTMH. After your baby is born, Joni and the staff are such a great support system. I love everyone and am glad Tucker and I got the opportunity to be in such a loving program. Thank you to all the businesses, people, and families who support the MTMH program. Gala Dinner Success
The 11th Annual Gala Dinner and Auction held on Sat., February 1, was a festive evening for the 250 guests in attendance. The theme Mardi Gras transformed Gurnell Hall into a dining room filled with festive lights and colors and guests wearing their best and snazziest attire. Once inside the dining room, guests had an opportunity to hear the live jazz music from the Black Tuesday Jazz Band, to view and bid on over 70 silent auction items and to purchase a ticket to participate in the "KING CAKE" game (a Mardi Gras tradition). One winner was awarded a week in Hawaii at a condo courtesy of Mel and Rhea Kowardy and a second winner received a beautiful amethyst dinner ring . A scrumptious New Orleans style dinner was prepared by the Foothill Grill and the ROP students from El Dorado high school.
Auctioneer Mike Lamoureux filled in for Jack Sweeney who was on a cruise. Mike conducted an exciting live auction assisted for the second year by our celebrity guest, Cristina Mendonsa, Channel 10 News Anchor. Cristina also served as the emcee for the evening. The 12 Live Auction items included a dinner for six with Bishop Soto, golf outings, a Tahoe vacation, Limo and Party bus wine tours and a beautiful gold ring.

The event will be 3-6 pm and for more information call 530-622-2171 or go to www.coldspringschurch.net. Thank you, Jeremy Roderick, a 5th grade teacher at Holy Trinity School. Mr. Roderick had students give to MTMH during Christmas time in lieu of teacher gifts for himself. Mr. Roderick also gave his students our wish list from our website and had them bring in maternity home gifts for teacher appreciation day in lieu of gifts for himself. Letter From Former MTMH Resident
Hello, my name is Michelle. I was a resident at Mother Teresa Maternity Home 04/28/12 ­ 07/28/12. This program was a huge blessing to me and my son, Riley. Riley was born 4/24/12 in Carmichael, CA. CPS made me voluntarily sign temporary custody over due to my homelessness. The hospital Social Worker gave me some Phone Numbers of maternity homes, and I was released from the hospital without my child. This was heart breaking!! First thing the next morning, I called the maternity homes on the list. Mother Teresa's was the first one that had an opening, and Joni conducted the phone interview with me. I was told I could come that same day with my newborn child. I arrived that same day to Mother Teresa's
and was so thankful for the program and the accommodations. I was shown several beautiful rooms to choose from and left to settle into my new place and beginning of our new life. Mother Teresa Home is an amazing program to help pregnant and new mothers get back on their feet and build a foundation for successful futures. While at Mother Teresa's, I was given structure, skills,& tools to thrive on my own. For example, each resident took turns planning and preparing dinner for the house, did mandatory community service and searched for jobs. Mother Teresa's isn't just a transitional home, but a place to regain important life skills, necessary to be a parent in our busy world.
I now have a 2-bedroom apartment where Riley and I live. Riley will be two in April and couldn't be busier. He's a healthy, happy toddler. I work full-time as a Department Manager at Walmart. I just want to reiterate what a blessing Mother Teresa's was for us. Mother Teresa's gave us a new beginning and a wonderful foundation to` beautiful lives. Riley came to visit MTMH showing us he's a big boy now
