ADULT/TEEN BINGO! NIGHT Thursday, July 10, 2014 is the Bingo night for teens and adults who are participating in the Summer Reading Program. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m.
TEEN ADVISORY GROUP (T. A. G.) Held on the 1st Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Come and have input into the teen department! LEGO CLUB Held on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month from 10:30-12:30 in the Children's Department.
FALL STORY TIMES September 15th-November 14th Infant Story Times (birth to 18 months) Fridays at 10:30 a.m. Wee Reed (18-36 months) Mondays and Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. Preschool Story Times (3 years and up) Mondays and Tuesdays at 11:00 a.m. END OF SUMMER ACTIVITIES IN CHILDREN'S DEPT. Beth, Betty, Helen, Jeanne, Kristen, Sarah, Sara Jo and Shana welcome everyone to the Adult Services Department of the library! Located upstairs in the library building, Adult Services has many options for reading and entertainment needs. Browse the shelves for fiction and nonfiction books--new titles are added regularly. Pick up a magazine, check out a music CD, or borrow a DVD or VHS for a movie
night. Audio books are available too! They are located near the reference section and back issues of periodicals. A large-print section, which includes regularly updated books from the Indiana State Library, is included in the Adult Collection. Reading areas and tables are available for work, study, or relaxation. The staff enjoys assisting patrons and welcomes you to visit the library regularly!

INTERLIBRARY LOAN Don't see a book that you'd like to read? See the librarians at the front desk for information on Interlibrary Loan. As long as it's not a brand new book, a title can often be borrowed from another library. Borrowing from an Indiana library is free--if you request a book from a library outside of Indiana, postage fees will apply. Many patrons use this service already--why don't you join them? 2
EBOOKS AND AUDIOBOOKS The Berne Public Library is a member of the Northeast Indiana digital library (NIDL) consortium. As a member, the BPL is pleased to offer many eBook and eAudiobook titles to its patrons. These titles are compatible with a variety of devices. Access this online collection by visiting the site, or by clicking the NIDL link on the library's homepage, Patrons can browse a variety of titles and use their library card to check out up to 6 titles and/or place 6 titles on hold. Device tech support is also available. Patrons must have a valid library card with no fines in order to check out items from NIDL. If you need assistance with your device or are having trouble checking out items, please contact the library staff with questions. They will be happy to assist you.
LIBRARY WEBSITE/FACEBOOK Visit the library's website,, to stay current on upcoming events and new arrivals at the library. You may also access the library's online catalog to renew or reserve books. If you visit the library on Facebook and like our page, you'll also get regular updates in your newsfeed.
FIZZ! BOOM! READ! Summer Reading Programs continue for all ages at the library! The Wednesday programs in June have included the movie "The Iron Giant", Mark's Ark, and creative performer Lisa Rich. Ronald McDonald has also entertained library visitors. In July, Sally Dotterer, a chemist, will demonstrate science fun on Wednesday, July 2nd. Leslie King, a musician, will end our summer reading programs with lots of music on July 9th. These Wednesday programs begin at 1:00 p.m. Preschoolers should turn in their completed worksheet by July 19th. Students completing grades K through 5 should turn in their completed reading minutes to the Children's Department by Monday, July 14th. Teens and adults should turn in their completed Tic-Tac-Toe reading sheets by July 31, 2014.
AT THE 4-H FAIR Visit the library staff in the 4-H Expo Hall at the Adams County 4-H Fair. From July 20-22, the library will have a booth at the fair, and free books will be available to fairgoers.
EBOOKS FOR KIDS AND TEENS Kids and Teens can now access ebooks on the NIDL website! Links are available on the Berne Public Library website,, or on the NIDL site, On the NIDL site, you can access these collections on the right site of the home page menu bar, or by scrolling down and clicking on the eReading Room. A variety of titles are available.
TEEN READING OPPORTUNITY Check out SYNC, a free summer audiobook program for young adults. From May 15th to August 14th, SYNC gives away two complete audiobook downloads a week: a current young adult title along with a thematically paired classic or required summer reading title. Sign up for email and text alerts and be first to know when new titles are available to download at TEEN ADVISORY GROUP (T. A. G.) Who? You! What? Chat & snack! A TO Z WORLD TRAVEL If you are thinking of taking a vacation this summer, don't forget to browse the AtoZWorldTravel database on the library's website. Just click the icon on the library's home page, and type in your library card number in the library login to access travel information. 1000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN Parents and grandparents are encouraged to sign their preschoolers up for 1000 Books Before Kindergarten. This self-paced program rewards preschool children for listening to books read by relatives, teachers, and other individuals. 1000 Books Before Kindergarten is underwritten by United Way. MEET THE STAFF JENNY HUBER, LIBRARY STAFF Q: How long have you worked at the Berne Public Library? J: Sixteen years. I started in February 1998. Q: What are your main responsibilities at the library? J: I keep the library clean. I also mow the yard and take care of the flower boxes. Q: What do you like best about working at the BPL? J: I love the flexible schedule. Also, the staff are all really great to work with. Q: What is your genre of choice to read? J: I enjoy reading fiction. Two of my favorite authors are Kristin Hannah and Susan Wiggs. Q: What do you like to do when not working at the library? J: I like to spend time with family and friends. I also enjoy reading and baking. Q: Tell us about your family: J: I have been married for almost 25 years. We have two sons, one daughter and a granddaughter.

BOOK SALES The Adult Department and Children's Department will each hold a book sale in August. Stop by the sale tables early for best selection. Also, be sure to regularly check the free table in the library lobby for any discarded items.
