Content: School Board to Hear Budget Scenarios
Each year at this time, the Falls Church City School Board receives a proposed budget from the superintendent and then develops its final budget from that plan. This year, because the variables associated with the FY11 budget forecast are fluid, the school board will consider various scenarios that take into account options ranging from a flat budget that includes no employee pay raise or cost of living adjustment to a total budget reduction of nearly seven percent. The conversation begins during the school board work session on January 12th when Superintendent Lois Berlin presents options and recommendations to the school board. The work session is open to the public. The work session is just the beginning of a long process that includes additional budget work sessions and public hearings before the school board adopts a final plan and sends it to the Falls Church City manager for inclusion in his proposed budget presentation to the City Council.

These initiatives will culminate at the 6th Annual Dinner on Friday, April 23, 2010. Help is needed in the following areas: planning, organizing, and/or soliciting goods and services for the annual auction. Last year, the auction generated more than $21,000 in proceeds to support the Falls Church City public schools Wilden After-School Program, Challenge Day and foundation operations.
